Racing has been around for centuries. It somehow fulfills the inherent characteristic of the human being to compete with one another. In the field of sports, it is typically a competition that is based entire on speed. You can race against an individual, or against the clock, whatever mechanics apply. The goal is to finish in the smallest amount of time.

In a race, one has to be the fastest. The main objective of the game is either to beat a standard time, to beat the clock, or to outrun all the other players. A single game generally has several stages that are also known as laps. The earliest records of the said activity dates back to the time of the Ancient Greeks and their profound love for speed manifested in the ancient chariot races.

There are also very many types of races. There is the ever popular horse races wherein people get to place bets on which beast they feel will win. There are also races that relies on sheer muscular strength, and that is in the form of running and swimming.

With the steady rise to fame that the said sport is enjoying, more and more people are thinking about getting into the field. It is no secret that racers rake in quite a lot of money in a year. This makes the racing profession all the more desirable.

But, it is also a well known fact that one has to start at a very early age if he has to have a future in the said industry. Well known drivers even start their career as early as age 8. If your child wants to carve his niche in the fast paced world of auto races, he has to start early and engage in the sport himself.

If one has to make a career out of the said sport, the advantages all go to the one who starts early. Truth be told, it is just like modeling. If you start at your early twenties, you are already considered as a late bloomer. There are even some racers that go karting in as early as six years old.

In this type of competition, the competitors are asked to drive around an oval track that is about one fifth of a mile in length for adults and a quarter of that measure for the children. This limitations on the size of the track is an added safety feature as cars that go as fast as 30 miles per hour rush by. The tracks can have varied surfaces, according to the place of the competition. They can be of dirt, concrete, or asphalt.

Most quarter midget races are between ages 6 to 16. Often they are used to propel one to the European races where the formula one cars run free. Since the cars are more of less of the same structure, midget drivers will have no worries fitting in.
